September Exhibit

This month's arthop opened the exhibit of Fresno artist, Stephanie Pearl.  Her excellent collection of abstract work on wood panel was well received by the many viewers throughout the night.

Stephanie has developed into one of the city's leading artists.  In addition to her work, she is the founder of the Downtown Community Arts Collective (DCAC), which counts with studio space for other artists.  It also runs classes for youth.

Also on view is John Ronald Fell's paintings representing the city of San Francisco.

The exhibit continues until Sept 24th.  Please feel free to call the gallery for a viewing.

Donald Munro of the Fresno Bee, published an excellent article about Stephanie's work:

Off to a Roaring Start!

Opening night, Aug 5, was a smash hit.  About 300 people attended.  Special thanks to:

-David Aus Trio for the wonderful jazz
-Engelmans Cellars for the wine
-Everyone who helped with serving and greeting

Juliana Harris registered the first sale for City Arts Gallery!  Congratulations.  Since then, each of the five artists exhibiting, has sold work.  Awesome.

Mornings with Models
Two days after opening, we began our series, Mornings With Models.  We had a good amount of artists attend ready for drawing.  All artists are invited to attend each Saturday, 9am-12pm.  Every session features a nude figure model.  We've had great support for this series also.  Models signed up for posing for nearly the entire rest of the year.  So, get your pencils, charcoal or brushes ready!  Just $10 to participate.

Portrait Marathon
Aug 8-13 welcomed fifteen models who posed for their portraits in 3-hour sittings.  Jose Osejo and I posted on Facebook the request for models.  By evening that day, all fifteen slots had been booked!

The image featured Kelli Hill as she posed for me.  It happened to be her birthday and her family and friends attended the session as I worked on the portrait.  Most who posed were people I had never met.  So, it was a pleasure getting to know them while they posed.  Thank you all who participated.

Last night, we exhibited the portraits.  It was another full house for City Arts Gallery.

Thursday nights, except arthop, CAG features another series open to artists:  Dress Me Up and Draw Me Down.  Kicking off the series was  model Sylvia Espinoza who chose to wear lingerie.  She wore to different sets, in fact.  August 19th, will feature Tracy in an evening gown.

Thank you all who've visited, participated in drawing groups, posed as models, purchased art, performed and volunteers.  City Arts Gallery is a success because of the wonderful people of the central valley.

Thank you artists for sharing your work.
